  • Options for Adult Braces in Northern NJ

There are more and more adults today who are deciding that they want to correct their teeth.  Especially with studies that show beautiful smiles can increase your career success and overall attractiveness. Plus, crooked teeth or bite misalignments can lead to jaw issues, gum disease, and even tooth breakage. The benefit to adults today is there are various options available.

Here at Dr. Milestone Orthodontics, we offer different teeth straightening approaches. All approaches follow the same basic principle: They apply constant pressure to teeth, causing them to move into the desired position. Most fall into the category of braces, which use a combination of brackets, bands, spacers, wires, tubes, ligatures, and springs in different combinations depending on your straightening needs. Dr. Mathew Milestone will discuss the best options for you.  Regardless of which tooth straightening option you decide on, it will involve an investment of time, money, and some discomfort. So let Milestone Orthodontics help you do your research and choose the best treatment.

    Bracket-Style Braces

Brackets are bonded to the front of each tooth and connected by wires. Dr. Mathew Milestone attaches these brackets and wires which typically are made of stainless steel or tooth-colored ceramic or plastic. While tooth-colored options look better, they can become discolored or cause additional friction and occasionally extend the length of time you have to wear them.

Dr. Milestone offers the Damon system which is clear brackets. Damon Clear uses what’s called a “passive” slide mechanism to maintain archwires within the bracket, allowing them to move freely. This reduces friction and binding, so your teeth can move quickly and more comfortably.

    Lingual-Type Bracket Braces

Lingual-type braces are very similar to bracket-style braces, except that instead of being mounted on the front of teeth, they’re attached to the back of teeth and hidden from view. The option is popular with adults here at Milestone Orthodontics.  This style of teeth straightening may be more expensive than bracket-style braces.  Dr. Mathew Milestone will be happy to discuss this option with you.

    Invisible Aligners

Another great technique that is most popular with adults as well as teens is Invisalign.  The team at Milestone Orthodontics will take an image of your teeth and create clear plastic aligners which are custom made for your teeth. These aligners are generally worn for a few weeks at a time and Dr. Milestone tells his patients remove them when eating, brushing and flossing.

    Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are more comfortable today than ever. They are made of high grade stainless steel and the old days of “Metal Mouth” braces are gone.

The benefits of having straight teeth aren’t just cosmetic either. Adults are finding that having their crooked teeth realigned improves dental hygiene, jaw pain, and headaches.  And boosts their confidence as well! So let Milestone Orthodontics help discuss the best teeth straightening technique for you.  Call our office in Paramus or West Orange today at 201-845-8411.
